Barcelo Bavaro Palace
I stayed at Barcelo Bavaro Palace back in 1994. It was my first trip to Punta Cana. I was impressed to say the least. The hotel was luxurious. The restaurants had excellent food and the beach was perfect.
This hotel used to be part of a 5 Hotel complex. The Palace being the biggest and best of all five. This Hotel is now the Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe.

Occidental Grand Punta Cana
We stayed at this resort in December of 2003. We spent New Year's Eve here. This is a Spanish-style resort with a lot of daily activities, water sports and live nightly shows. It is a quick 20-minute ride from the airport.
...and this is my husband's review:
The Occidental Grand Punta Cana was the first trip to the Dominican Republic for my daughter and I. It was my wife’s second trip. At the time, we thought it was the most wonderful place in the world. We went for Christmas vacation and the Buffet’s had fresh shellfish every night, and it was good.
The rooms were nice, nothing great, and after staying at other Punta Cana resorts, the Occidental went from the most wonderful to ok at best.

My daughter particularly loved the shows and was quite enamored by one of the dancers whose name is “Santa”, perfect name for the Holidays right?
Barcelo Bavaro Beach
So this used to be one of the five hotels within the Barcelo Bavaro Complex I mentioned before. Now this is the Barcelo Bavaro Beach and Convention Center.
This is what my husband thinks about the Barcelo Bavaro Beach:
The Bavaro Beach complex was nicer than the Occidental Grand (we had a room right on the beach). Rosie, a staff member, was great entertainment but, the food was not the greatest. The shows mimicked the Occidental's but the mixed drinks were better.
All Inclusive resorts tend to have the same shows and food variations in the area.

Gran Bahia Principe Punta Cana
We stayed at Gran Bahia Principe Punta Cana back in 2008. The lobby of the Gran Bahia Principe was very nice and the drinks were very good. You took a shuttle almost everywhere you went due to the enormous size of the complex.
This was by far the nicest resort that we stayed at as far as room conditions and ground maintenance.

Unfortunately 4 out of 6 of us got sick within 3 days of arriving. I would definitely go back if it weren’t for the bad memories of being sick and spending one of my precious vacation days in the room because of it.
Bavaro Princess Punta Cana
This resort has the most unattractive lobby of all the resorts that I have stayed at, but in their defense, absolutely the best food of all.
The rooms are all suites with a spacious balcony with a table and chairs.
The A La Carte restaurants were superb and showcased some world class talent in the kitchens.
I would definitely return to the for the pleasant dining experience and the great hamburgers on the beach for lunch.
My advice is that you don't stress out trying to choose the right Punta Cana Resort. You will be happy staying at any of them!

I love this resort. You have many choices of restaurants and the food is really good. This is a big resort but we enjoyed exploring it!
